Top 5 Weirdest and Most Interesting Plants and Fungi in the World

Plants have a bad name for being inert and uninteresting, although many of them are neither. These 20 plants defy the commonplace stereotypes that afflict their realm. (Okay, some are actually fungus, so I cheated a little.) I hope you enjoy yourselves!

Plants and Fungi of Particular Interest

  1. Titan Arum, Corpse Flower
  2. Elephant-Foot Yam is a kind of yam that grows on elephants' back
  3. Another "Corpse Flower" is the Rafflesia.
  4. Venus Flytrap (Venus Flytrap)
  5. Pitcher Plants in the Tropics

 1. Titan Arum, Corpse Flower

Plant Information: The Corpse Flower smells like a decaying corpse and has the appearance of something from the film Avatar. I'm guessing the fragrance keeps it from being eaten, yet despite this defence system, the plant is still rather uncommon. It's a "threatened" species, according to the IUCN. It comes from Sumatra's jungles. It's actually thousands upon thousands of little male and female flowers, rather than a single large bloom. Oils are emitted from them, while heat is collected in the middle. Because of the heat, the oils produce a scent that attracts the insects that pollinate the bloom. A mature plant may weigh up to 200 pounds, in case you were wondering.

2. Elephant-Foot No. 2 Amorphophallus paeoniifolius is the scientific name for yam.

Southeast Asia is the location.

About the Plant: Can you figure out who this adorable little fellow is linked to? The Corpse Flower, to be precise. They are not only connected, but they also have a lot in common. This person, for example, smells like a corpse. Elephant-foot yams come in a variety of colours. Some are completely white.

In terms of wackiness, the Elephant-Foot Yam may have the upper hand over the Corpse Flower. This strange-looking plant is really tasty. They are produced as a delicacy in one Southeast Asian culture and as a last-resort food source in another.

3. Rafflesia: Another "Corpse Flower" Rafflesia arnoldii is the scientific name for this flower.

Indonesia is the location of this article.

The Rafflesia is known as another "corpse flower" due to its foul odour (I promise this is the last plant here that smells like a corpse). It's one of a kind since it's the world's biggest single bloom. It's also odd since it lacks stalks, leaves, or roots, despite the fact that it appears to be a plant. Some believe it has something to do with fungus. It is classified as Equisetopsia (related to horsetails) on the Kew Botanical Gardens website, although Wikipedia classifies it under Malphigiales (a large category including willows and flaxes).

4.Venus Flytrap

Dionaea muscipula is the scientific name for this plant.

North and South Carolina are the two states that make up the Carolinas.

Plant Information: It is a carnivore. Plants don't eat much other than sunshine (but there are a few exceptions in the list below). Even fewer (about four species) have the ability to move quickly. The Venus Flytrap appears to be from another planet as a result of this. It comes from the wetlands of North and South Carolina, where the soil is deficient in nutrients. It occasionally desires a high-nitrogen snack.

You might be wondering how the trap is set off. With trigger hairs, at least. The trap snaps shut when two hairs are touched within 20 seconds of each other or when a single hair is touched twice.

5. Pitcher Plants in the Tropics Scientific name: Nepenthes species

Sumatra, Borneo, and the Philippines are the locations.

About the Plant: It has been seen that monkeys drink from it. It has been discovered with rats partially digested in it. The pitcher plant is a true nightmare. There are over 150 species, most of which are found in the jungles of Sumatra, Borneo, and the Philippines.

A tropical pitcher plant's food includes lizards, termites, spiders, and worms, as well as anything else that can fit inside its pouch of sticky sap (though it seems to prefer smaller insects). Individual species have intricate interactions with their environments.
